The TD Club has awarded about $140,000 in scholarships over the past 10 years at this luncheon, at which 25 finalists will receive at least $500 toward college. Finalists have to be staters on their respective high school football teams with the highest GPAs.

We are expecting 1,000 people again this year when the TD Club's blue-ribbon panel high school coaches select the High School Player of the Year on offense and on defense. A blue-ribbon panel of high school athletic directors will select the Greater Houston High School Coach of the Year.

The area high school football programs are judged by the football chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials -- the refs -- at each contest. The results are tabulated and the top programs are invited to see who will win the TD Club's Sportsmanship Trophy. Previous winners are Klein (2005), Scarborough (2006), Deer Park (2007) and Atascocita (2008).
