2010 STERLING BANK SPORTSMANSHIP LUNCHEON,
presented by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes

The TD Club expanded the awards for the Sterling Bank Sportsmanship Luncheon, presented by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in 2010. Besides a first place, second and third places also were awarded. Seven Lakes High School won the 2010 award, as voted on by area referees, represented by Kevin O'Keefe, far right. Second place was Dobie, with assistant coach Irwin Theodile, third from the right. And third place was won by Cinco Ranch, represented by Don Clayton, second from right. Representing Sterling Bank is Pamela Lovett, left, and representing the FCA is Wade Hopkins, back middle. Guest speaker was Pro Football Hall of Famer Bruce Matthews, back left. 

2010 UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON LUNCHEON,
presented by Frenchy's Chicken and CDM/David and Jody Marrs

University of Houston football coach Kevin Sumlin headlined a luncheon for UH Day on May 12. Sumlin, who got a standing ovation before his speech from the Cougar faithful, talked about the upcoming season. Also speaking were UH AD Mack Rhoades, UH mne's basketball coach James Dickey and UH women's basketball coach Todd Buchanan. Emcee was 1560-AM's Sean Pendergast.    

2010 HOUSTON TEXANS LUNCHEON,
with Gary Kubiak, presented by Regions Bank

Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak, who was very enthusiastic about the 2010 season, is interviewed by the media. Kubiak sais that he likes this team, which has now started breaking huddles with the words "Super Bowl" instead of the word "Texans." Madison High School coach Ray Seals, left, talks about the TD Club's involvement in reburbishing weight rooms in Greater Houston High Schools, about the Club giving scholarships, about the cleats the Club gets to area schools from the Houston Texans and the Play It Smart program, which has put skids struggling with academics in HISD into college. 

2010 OKLAHOMA STATE DAY,
with Mike Gundy, presented by CEP Sorbents

Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy, left, talks to the media, discussing new offensive coordinator Dana Holgerson, expectations for the Cowboys in the 2010 Big 12 Conference race, and the expansion talk with the Pac-10 Conference. In the photo on the right, Gundy addresses the pro-orange crowd, talking about the quarterback situation all the way to the defensive changes. This was the fifth year in a row that Gundy has spoken to the Touchdown Club in Houston at the JW Marriott.

2010 BAYLOR DAY,
with Art Briles

Baylor head coach Art Briles delivered the speech and Houston Chronicle sportswriter John McClain, The General, (left) was the emcee of Baylor Day this year. Briles talked about getting a new stadium on campus, as Baylor is the only Big 12 school without a stadium on its campus. At right is Lamar High School head coach Tom Nolen, who talked about the TD Club's weight room project as well as how the TD Club put academic advisors on the campuses of the 23 Houston ISD schools with athletics and how that has almost tripled the graduation rates of student-athletes at those high schools.

2010 LSU DINNER, with Les Miles
presented by TOMAX and Woodrow's

LSU head coach Les Miles, right, talked to the audience during the LSU Dinner, employing a "chalk talk," where Miles showed film of the spring football game and talked about positions and depth. Houston was one of the stops on the annual Tiger Tour. The audience, left, drank in the presentation like only Cajuns can. 

2010 TOUCHDOWNER DINNER, honoring Kenny Houston
presented by VYPE High School Magazine and POWERADE

NFL Hall of Famer Kenny Houston of the Houston Oilers and the Washington Redskins was this year's Touchdowner of the Year honoree. His wife, Gustie, introduced Ken to the audience and she stole the show. Speaking on his behalf were fellow Hall of Famer Elvin Bethea (also listed as a fishing buddy to Kenny), former teammate Alvin Reed (who played against Kenny in high school and with Ken with the Oilers and Redskins), and Barry Warner, the former NFL scout who discovered Houston and currently is a KILT-AM talk show host. Also attending, at right, were former Touchdowner winners John David Crow (far right) who is Texas A&M's 1956 Heisman Trophy winner, and R.C. Slocum, the winningest football coach at A&M. In the left fo the photo are Diron and Don Talbot, who played football at the University of Texas, with Diron also playing at the Washington Redskins in the NFL.

2010 TEXAS SOUTHERN-PRAIRIE VIEW A&M LUNCHEON,
presented by Frenchy's Chicken, A-Rocket Moving and Storage, Dixie Hardware, Plumbing and Electrical, and GlennLock Construction

Prairie View coach Henry Frazier III, left, receives a special award recognizing PVAMU's first football conference championship since 1964 from Lisa Nicks Elder, granddaughter of College Football Hall of Fame PVAMU coach Billy Nicks. At right, TSU coach Johnnie Cole rebuts some of the things that Frazier said during his time at the luncheon. Guest speaker was Alvin Reed, a former All-America end at PVAMU. Also speaking was TSU President Dr. John Rudley, with Ch. 11 sportscaster Butch Alsandor as emcee. TSU's Charles Green received an award for his community service in HISD. Green also started at quarterback for four years in a row in the 1970s.
